Temperatures and rain chances increase this week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — There’s one more refreshingly cool morning this week before temperatures and rain chances increase midweek.

Monday morning will start off with a mostly-clear sky with widespread temperatures in the 50s. After a refreshingly cool start to the day, temperatures will rebound and get a boost from the sunshine and southerly breeze and rise into the low-mid 80s. Clouds slowly increase Monday night with two cloudy and potentially-wet days to follow Tuesday and Wednesday.

What’s this chance for rain coming from the Pacific?

Rain is back in the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday as two tropical systems in the eastern Pacific will make landfall in western Mexico. Their moisture will traverse across the country to the gulf early this week. That being said, how far north that tropical moisture extends can be quite variable. Right now, it looks like most of southeast Texas will see two cloudy days with some light rain here and there. But some of the heavy, tropical downpours could impact coastal areas Tuesday and Wednesday, too.

I did indeed! Our next front should arrive Friday, setting us up for another perfect weekend next weekend as well.

Is Texas done with the hurricane season?

At this time, we are monitoring an area of disturbed weather over the Bay of Campeche. Tropical development is low at this time. Based on the projected steering currents over the Gulf, we are likely in the clear from any direct hits. That said, we’re entering the time of year when we have to pay closer attention to what’s happening in the Pacific since those storms can recurve into Mexico and send heavy rains to Texas.
