Woman hospitalized with ‘serious’ injuries after fall from state fair tram, officials say

A person was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after they fell off a State Fair of Texas tram, officials have confirmed.

About 3:45 p.m., fair officials were notified that a person had fallen off the tram, said Taylor Austin, a spokesperson for the State Fair of Texas.

People who saw the incident told fair officials a woman had “jumped off” a moving parking lot tram to pick up an item she had dropped, Austin said.

The woman was injured when “she came in contact with the tram cart,” Austin said.

“First aid responded immediately and determined the person required additional medical attention,” Austin said in a written statement Sunday evening.

Dallas-Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said the department was called to the 4300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. in response to reports that someone had been “hit by a tram” in the area.

The person’s injuries were believed to be “serious,” Evans added.

No further information was available related to the condition of the person who was injured.

The fair had a delayed opening Sunday, a day after a shooting that wounded three people — two men and a women — led to an evacuation of the fairgrounds. Cameron Turner, 22, was arrested in connection with the shooting and is facing three counts of aggravated assault.
