Monday is an Weather Alert Day with showers potentially leading to messy commutes.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We have a big beneficial rainfall on the way, though it will come with the risk of slick roads throughout the day tomorrow.

Light showers have started to move into southeast Texas from the southwest and will become more widespread overnight. These showers will stay put for Monday and last throughout the day. Besides that it’s another cool, cloudy and now rainy stretch of weather to welcome the new week.

What do we need to prepare for on Monday, and why is it now an Weather Alert Day?

Monday will be a wet day area-wide, with rain starting late Sunday evening and continuing through most of the day. Wet roads and area ponding will likely lead to a slow-going and messy commute at times. The good news is that our coastal low is tracking farther south, meaning we are expecting mostly a steady light to moderate rain. That will leave us with no severe weather risk and only a limited flood risk mainly near the coast. Wind gusts between 30 to 35 mph are also expected.

How many inches of rain could we get?

Now through Tuesday we could pick up additional rain totals averaging 1-2 inches with higher amounts possible in our coastal counties. The rain will likely be heavier in our coastal counties due to the track of the surface low moving by on Monday.

So how long could clouds block out the sun?

It is likely to stay overcast through at least Monday. We currently expect some sunshine to return late Tuesday as the low pressure moves away from us, but if the sky doesn’t clear out before sunset, then we are fairly confident we’ll get a good dose of sunshine on Wednesday.
