N. Harris Co. apartment resident opens fire on man who entered unit, sheriff says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man is dead after authorities said he went into a north Harris County apartment and was shot by the person living there.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, about the shooting incident in the 18200 block of Westfield.

Authorities said the resident and his girlfriend arrived at the apartment when they found the man inside. That’s when the resident shot at the suspect, who was also armed. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Sgt. Jason Brown with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide division, it’s believed the man may have gone into the apartment through an unlocked door, as there didn’t appear to be a forced entry.

The identity of the suspect remains unknown, but Brown said he was described as a 35-year-old Black man who was also reportedly wanted on several warrants.

As the investigation continues into the case, authorities said the resident and his girlfriend are being cooperative and don’t expect any charges to be filed.
