1 dead, 1 in custody in fatal Denton County shooting, police say

A man was fatally shot Tuesday evening in Denton County, and a person has been taken into custody police say.

Aubrey police officers responded to a report of a shooting a little before 8 p.m. to Concord Drive in Providence Village, the department said in a Facebook post. At the scene, emergency responders took Nikolai Hannemann, 22, to a hospital, where police said he died from his injuries.

The department said officers arrested Austin Fontana, 18, at the scene on a murder charge. Hannemann and Fontana knew each other and lived in the same residence, according to police.

Records show Fontana remains in Denton County custody with his bail set at $1 million.

No additional information was immediately available, and police said the investigation is ongoing.
