Family of two siblings killed in separate Dallas shootings focus of GoFundMe effort

Family members of young siblings killed in separate Dallas shootings within a two-week span created a fundraiser to help their loved ones.

As of Friday evening, the GoFundMe page garnered a little more than $1,900.

Ah’Laynah Ross, 6, was shot about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday at a townhome in the 2100 block of North Fitzhugh Avenue, near Fuqua Street, Dallas police said. She was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later, according to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.

Police have said a handgun used in Ah’Laynah’s death may have been left unsecured in the townhome and that two adults and two other juveniles were in the home when the shooting occurred. It was “unknown how the child was shot,” police said.

Ah’Laynah’s brother was 14-year-old Ah’Bralen Rider, who was fatally shot Dec. 29 in Oak Lawn, according to the fundraiser and law enforcement officials. Officers found Ah’Bralen and another 14-year-old boy shot in the 3100 block of Harry Hines Boulevard. Police said the second teen was expected to recover from his injuries.

The children’s mother, Brittney Ross, was dressing Ah’Bralen for his service Wednesday when she received a “horrible heart-breaking” phone call that Ah’Laynah “was being rushed to the hospital due to gun trauma to the head,” Antaneisha Nelson, a member of the family, wrote in the fundraiser.

Nelson wrote that Ah’Laynah was pronounced dead minutes after arriving to the hospital. Ah’Laynah and Ah’Bralen were two of Brittney Ross’ six children, according to the fundraiser.

The funds will go to their memorials and to help their mother and her other children.

“As a family and community, we’re asking you to donate anything out of heart and love to help the mother and remaining 4 children with memorial purposes and also special needs,” Nelson wrote.
