Following a crackdown by the Houston Police Department, the suspect involved in a fatal road rage shooting along the Southwest Freeway has been arrested

Authorities have announced an arrest in connection with a reported road rage shooting that resulted in the death of a man and the injury of two young women in Houston, Texas.

Oscar Vazquez Guzman allegedly fired shots into a car on the Southwest Freeway near Hillcroft on Friday, resulting in the death of Otarion Lomax the following day. Lomax, a recent graduate of Westbury High School, was set to begin training as a crane operator the following week, according to his mother, Veronica Williams.

The incident occurred as Lomax and two friends were driving from Main Event Entertainment in Humble to get food. Guzman reportedly drove closely behind Lomax’s car before pulling up next to it. After a brief exchange of words, Guzman allegedly fired shots into the car, injuring Lomax and the two women.

In response to the tragedy, law enforcement agencies across southeast Texas have initiated an aggressive driving crackdown, starting on the Southwest Freeway. The Houston Police Department, along with other agencies including the Department of Public Safety, METRO, and county sheriff’s offices, are collaborating on this effort.

Chief Troy Finner emphasized that the goal of the initiative is to enhance safety on the city’s highways rather than generate revenue. Data obtained by revealed a significant increase in road rage shootings from 2016 to 2023, underscoring the need for increased enforcement and safety measures.

HPD intends to provide updates on the number of arrests made as part of the enforcement efforts on Wednesday.
