Neighbors who have endured years of frustration due to deep potholes and cracks on a Houston road may soon find relief

Residents in southeast Houston are frustrated with the deteriorating conditions of Mykawa Road, stretching from Almeda Genoa Road to the Clear Creek bridge. Despite filing numerous reports over the years, the road’s large potholes and cracks persist, causing safety concerns.

Dedrick Turner, a nearby resident, recounted a recent close call when his family’s car was hit by another vehicle after encountering a deep pothole on Mykawa Road. Turner emphasized the stark contrast between the smooth road surface on one side of the bridge and the hazardous conditions on the other.

Jordan Causey, another resident, described the road as treacherous, noting the need for comprehensive repaving rather than temporary patching due to the worsening conditions, especially after rainfall.

Frustrated by the lack of action from the city despite numerous complaints, Causey turned to for assistance, feeling unheard and concerned for her safety and that of her neighbors.

Anthony Hollis shared his wife’s experience of being rear-ended due to a large hole on the road, highlighting the urgency for repairs.

According to 311 records, there have been approximately 74 service calls regarding Mykawa Road in the past six months. Houston Public Works informed that a rehabilitation project for Mykawa Road is currently in the design phase, aiming to strip and resurface the road with new asphalt.

The design phase is expected to continue until late spring, with plans for community outreach and updates available through the Build Houston Forward or Engage Houston websites.
