Efforts to improve USPS efficiency faced setbacks, causing delays, officials report

In response to numerous complaints about mail delivery delays originating from USPS facilities in Missouri City and north Houston, officials have revealed that a plan aimed at enhancing efficiency has caused the delays.

Congressman Al Green, along with representatives from Rep. Sylvia Garcia’s office and Chair Michael McCaul, met with representatives from the National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS) to discuss the issue on Tuesday.

During the meeting, attention was drawn to the “Delivering for America” plan, a 10-year initiative designed to improve USPS efficiency. However, three years into the initiative, it appears that the anticipated improvements have not been realized.

As part of the plan, the installation of High Output Package Sorters (HOPS) was intended to replace the less efficient Automated Parcel Bundle Sorters (APBS) at the north Houston sorting facility. However, setbacks occurred due to inadequate planning, according to officials.

Representatives from the association expressed concerns about the poor execution of the new machine’s installation, resulting in delivery delays and backlogs at the facilities.

Furthermore, reliance on ground transportation, coupled with staffing shortages after the holiday season, contributed to the delays.

Given the latest update, it remains uncertain when package movement will resume normally.
