Experts advise students to prepare for smart decision-making when their FAFSA packages, which may have been delayed, finally arrive

In Houston, Texas, financial aid packages hold significant sway over individuals’ decisions to pursue college education. Yet, due to unforeseen delays in the Department of Education’s update of the Federal Student Aid application last year, millions of Americans find themselves in a waiting game.

According to personal finance expert Lisa Chastain, while the updated, streamlined form was a necessary improvement, its implementation timing couldn’t have been more challenging. As a result, many students and their families are left without financial aid packages from universities or colleges, leaving little time to make enrollment decisions for the upcoming fall semester.

Chastain advises affected students to prioritize their school choices and consider more affordable options first. Staying in touch with the admission and financial aid offices of desired schools can provide valuable insights until the final aid packages are released.

In the interim, students can explore merit-based scholarships and alternative funding opportunities while also considering cost-saving measures like living at home. Chastain emphasizes the importance of having multiple plans in place so that when aid packages arrive in late March or April, students can make well-informed decisions about their educational future.
