A mother in Fort Worth seeks answers following her daughter’s assault on a school bus

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a cellphone video capturing a fight on a school bus that left a 7-year-old girl injured.

Sharhonda Courtney revealed that her 7-year-old daughter was struck by an older student during the altercation on the school bus. As her daughter copes with the emotional aftermath of the incident, Courtney aims to alert other parents about the perils of bullying.

Describing the video, Courtney recounted, “She says the little girl got up and came towards her and started yanking her side to side. My daughter stated that she was on the floor of the bus and the little girl was banging her head on the back window of the bus.”

Following the attack, Courtney’s daughter sustained a black eye and is now experiencing difficulty sleeping due to the trauma.

“My daughter is afraid,” Courtney expressed. “She doesn’t want to sleep alone.”

The mother herself is grappling with intense emotions. “Oh my God, it made me so upset,” Courtney shared. “I felt like, I was just angry. I wish I could have been there to protect her.”

Courtney revealed that the incident stemmed from bullying, a matter her daughter was apprehensive to discuss. “Talk to y’all children,” she urged. “You never know what they have going on. Bullying is just outrageous, and I’m upset about it.”

In response to the incident, the Fort Worth Independent School District issued a written statement emphasizing their commitment to student safety and well-being. They assured that appropriate measures are being taken to address the situation and prevent future occurrences.

Despite the district’s response, Courtney seeks further clarity from the school and access to the complete video footage from the school bus camera.

“I haven’t seen the full video and I’m still wanting to because, just by what I saw was just outrageous,” Courtney emphasized. “I’m trying to figure out why transportation hasn’t reached out. How come nothing was done? Why come she didn’t say, ‘Hey, they got into a fight.’ Tell me something before just driving off on me. Some kind of communication.”
