New effort to cut delays on Dallas Riverfront Boulevard reconstruction

Riverfront Boulevard in Dallas serves as a stark example of prolonged delays in roadwork despite allocated funds.

Originally named Industrial Boulevard, the street’s transformation was envisioned in 2008.

Plans for its upgrade extend even further back, with $60 million designated for the rehabilitation of Riverfront Boulevard from the Frank Crowley Dallas County Criminal Courthouse to Cadiz Street, including new sidewalks and utilities.

However, multiple layers of government and various utilities, along with aging infrastructure, have contributed to delays. Challenges include a power substation with lines under the boulevard, leading to disputes over responsibility for the delays.

Despite completed sections showcasing the envisioned improvements, ongoing complexities and disagreements continue to impede progress.

The $60 million allocated may face potential inadequacy as costs rise, further hindering the realization of the project’s goals.
