Jeweler admits he was shot several times during apparent drug deal in Second Ward, HPD says

In Houston’s Second Ward on Monday night, a man was shot multiple times and robbed during what investigators believe was a drug deal gone awry.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in the driveway of the Forth at Navigation apartment complex on Navigation Boulevard.

According to the Houston Police Department, the victim, a man in his 30s who works as a jeweler, initially claimed he was meeting someone for a sale. However, upon further questioning by detectives, he admitted he was there to purchase a “large amount of narcotics.”

The situation quickly turned violent when two individuals wearing hoodies attacked the victim, assaulting him, shooting him multiple times, and then stealing from him before fleeing the scene.

Although the victim sustained critical injuries, he was transported to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

The exact items taken during the robbery remain unclear at this time.

Police are exploring the possibility that one of the suspects may have been injured by gunfire.

Lt. J.P. Horelica stated, “The victim, possibly, was able to shoot his own firearm, striking one of the suspects. If that’s the case, we are checking all of the hospitals now trying to find another victim.”

The suspects, described as two Black men wearing hoodies, drove away from the scene in a four-door vehicle. However, no further details about the suspects were provided.

As the investigation unfolded, HPD emphasized the importance of conducting sales transactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, in well-lit areas, preferably during daylight hours, and in the presence of other people.
