Rodeo scholarship lights up future for UH student

Princessa Trejo, a 19-year-old student, has been awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This scholarship comes as a significant relief for Princessa, who has faced numerous challenges in her life.

“My mom passed away in December 2020 from cancer,” Princessa revealed. “Despite being an immigrant, she never allowed her residency status to define her, and I deeply admired that about her.”

Currently enrolled as a freshman at the University of Houston, Princessa is actively involved in the Hispanic Business Student Association and is pursuing a major in Finance.

Receiving this scholarship means that Princessa can now focus more on her studies without having to juggle work and school commitments.

“Previously, I was working 4 to 5 days a week,” Princessa shared. “Now, thanks to this scholarship, the financial burden on both my dad and me has significantly eased.”
