Unanswered questions remain after Dallas woman with loss of memory found in Mexico

A Dallas woman has returned to the United States and reunited with her family after being found driving in a remote town in Mexico without any recollection of how she got there.

Enola Harris, 76, informed authorities in Muzquiz, Mexico, that she had departed from her home in Dallas two days earlier, unexpectedly finding herself nearly 10 hours away and crossing the border into the Mexican state of Coahuila.

Tania Flores, the mayor of Muzquiz, expressed bewilderment at the situation, describing it as “so strange.” After facilitating Harris’s return across the border into Texas on Sunday, Flores revealed lingering questions about the circumstances surrounding Harris’s journey.

The ordeal unfolded after midnight on Saturday in the rural town of Muzquiz, Coahuila, where police observed Harris, driving with Texas plates, proceeding the wrong way through downtown.

According to Flores, authorities discovered that Harris was disoriented and unable to recognize her location accurately, believing she was still in Dallas.

While Harris could provide clear answers to some questions, she struggled with others, including failing to identify the country she was in.

Unable to explain how she ended up far from home, Harris traversed several checkpoints inside Mexico before arriving in Muzquiz.

Flores, unable to reach anyone through the numbers listed in Harris’s phone, turned to social media, sharing photos and videos to solicit help from the public. The posts eventually reached Harris’s family, who arranged for her return to Texas.

Houston police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the gap in Harris’s memory.

Despite the uncertainty, Flores expressed relief that they were able to assist Harris during her unexpected stay in Mexico.

The Dallas Police Department stated that they have not received any reports regarding Harris and are not investigating the incident. NBC 5 contacted Houston police for further details regarding their inquiry.
