Man allegedly armed with “Uzi-type” weapon shot, killed by deputies recovering stolen car, HCSO says

A man has died following an altercation with law enforcement in northeast Harris County, as confirmed by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

According to Gonzalez, investigators are heading to the 9800 block of Fleming Springs Drive, the location of the shooting.

Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding the recovery of a stolen vehicle at the said address.

During the course of their response, deputies encountered a man who was reportedly armed with an “Uzi-type” weapon.

Subsequently, the deputies discharged their weapons, resulting in the man being fatally struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff stated.

Authorities did not specify whether the deceased individual was linked to the initial service call.

No deputies sustained injuries during the incident.

This occurrence marks the third shooting involving law enforcement in the past three days. On Friday, a suspect was killed after exchanging gunfire with an HPD officer responding to a domestic dispute near downtown Houston.

Similarly, on Thursday, an HPD officer shot and killed a suspect, possibly tied to several robberies in the area, in a shootout in the city’s Second Ward.
