Globe Life Field transformed for American Western Weekend

The transformation from a baseball field to a dirt-filled arena at Globe Life Field marks the beginning of the American Western Weekend, which commenced on Friday night.

Reining horse trainer Jason Vanlandingham highlighted the unique preparations required to accommodate elite horse athletes in the arena. He compared the horses to Michael Jordan in their exceptional abilities and emphasized the importance of well-groomed surfaces for optimal performance.

Vanlandingham demonstrated various maneuvers performed in reining competitions with his quarter horse, Best Shine. These include spins, sudden stops, changes of direction, and the sliding stop, showcasing the athleticism and skill of the horse athletes.

The American Western Weekend features the American Horseman Performance competition on Friday night and the American Rodeo on Saturday, boasting a total prize purse of $1 million.

Vanlandingham expressed excitement akin to winning a championship, likening the event’s success to the exhilaration felt by the Texas Rangers after clinching the World Series.

Apart from the top Western athletes competing, entertainers Luke Bryan and Post Malone are scheduled to perform during the event.
