2 people rescued after becoming trapped in 10-foot trench in southwest Houston, HFD says

Emergency responders successfully rescued two individuals who became trapped in a trench in southwest Houston on Thursday afternoon.

The Houston Fire Department swiftly reacted to the emergency, arriving at the 7100 block of Buffalo Speedway near Maroneal within six minutes of receiving the call.

The individuals were extricated from the 10-foot trench, located between two apartment buildings at the Camden Vanderbilt, by 3:13 p.m. One person was subsequently transported to the hospital, although their condition remains unknown.

According to a resident, construction has been ongoing on the property for approximately a month, with orange fencing surrounding the area.

Approximately 41 members of the Houston Fire Department were involved in the rescue operation, and an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representative arrived at the scene around 5 p.m.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the individuals were engaged in work at the time, remain unclear.
