Lanes open after multi-vehicle accident shuts down southbound Highway 161 in Irving, 3 injured

Following a major multi-vehicle accident late Thursday afternoon, southbound lanes of State Highway 161 at Walnut Hill in Irving were temporarily closed, resulting in significant traffic delays during rush hour.

The collision, involving an 18-wheeler and four vehicles, resulted in three individuals being transported to hospitals with injuries, according to Irving Police.

To facilitate the response of emergency personnel, authorities urged the public to refrain from using the southbound service road.

Irving officials anticipated the closure of the highway to persist for several hours until the accident site could be cleared.

However, lanes were reopened around 7 p.m. Thursday night, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
