Suspect who rammed into patrol car dies after being shot by deputy during short chase: Officials

In Spring, Texas, a suspect has died following a shooting involving a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy after a brief chase, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of the 12400 block of I-45H and Pruitt Road, as reported by Cpt. Tim Hoffield of MCSO.

According to Hoffield, the sequence of events unfolded when one deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to comply, while another deputy was responding to a separate crash investigation.

The driver of the vehicle continued southbound on Sawdust Road, initiating a short pursuit. However, the pursuit abruptly halted when the suspect encountered the scene of the existing crash.

Subsequently, MCSO stated that one of the deputies exited their patrol car, and the suspect allegedly reversed his vehicle, colliding with the patrol car and causing the deputy to fall to the ground.

In response to this perceived threat, the deputy discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.

Both the injured suspect and the deputy were transported to the hospital for treatment. While the deputy was discharged after evaluation, the suspect succumbed to his injuries.

Officials highlighted concerns regarding the frequency of officer-involved shootings in Montgomery County, expressing a need for thorough investigation.

Additionally, it was noted that the involved deputies had less than one year of law enforcement experience.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
