Bank teller gave ‘Little Rascals’ fake money during bank robbery, grandmother says

In Houston, Texas, the grandmother of two of the boys involved in the recent bank robbery in north Harris County claimed that the teller gave the trio “play money” during the incident.

Preferring to remain anonymous, the woman identified herself as the grandmother of the two boys, aged 11 and 16, while a third boy, aged 12, was also implicated, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

She recounted how the boys were apprehended, mentioning that she was the one who alerted authorities after seeing their photos online.

The incident occurred on March 14, coinciding with the boys’ spring break, when the FBI released photos of the trio, dubbing them “little rascals,” in an attempt to identify them. ABC13 subsequently blurred their faces upon identification.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 3 p.m. that day, the boys allegedly handed a threatening note to a teller at the Wells Fargo on the North Freeway and West Road, approximately five miles from their residence, and absconded with an undisclosed sum of money. Disputing the allegation, the grandmother questioned the existence of any substantial cash, suggesting that the teller may have given them fake money.

The third boy was apprehended following a separate law enforcement incident involving weapons, where he was recognized. All three were charged with robbery by threat. The grandmother adamantly denied claims of the boys being armed during the robbery.

She disclosed that two of the suspects are currently in juvenile detention, emphasizing that this is their first encounter with trouble, and expressed hope that it would be their last.

Struggling with the emotional toll of the situation, she stressed the importance of the boys learning from their mistake.

Due to their juvenile status, authorities have withheld their names and additional details.
