Man steals woman’s purse moments after he was released from Harris County Jail, documents state

In Houston, Texas, Todd May found himself back in custody on the same day he was released from jail for a previous offense.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, May allegedly stole a woman’s purse just a block away from the Harris County Jail shortly after being released on Tuesday.

Earlier that day, he had been released on a $100 bond after being arrested for trespassing at the Harris County Jury Assembly Building the previous day.

Reports indicate that May targeted the victim while she was assisting someone with an exit gate in a parking lot on Baker Street, where he seized her purse.

Although court documents identify the victim as a detention officer, the sheriff’s office clarified that she is, in fact, a parking lot attendant employed by a parking lot company.

Upon realizing the theft, the victim sought assistance from a deputy, who located May at a nearby bus stop.

Remarkably, May was found in possession of the victim’s purse and even had his bond paperwork from his prior arrest just hours earlier.

A review of May’s criminal record unveils a history of 19 arrests spanning an eight-year period, with several additional arrests since then. While many charges are for minor offenses such as trespassing and public intoxication, there are also more serious allegations, including assault.

May now faces a theft charge and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
