‘It’s his parents’ fault’: Woman allegedly stabbed by 12-year-old fights for her life, family says

In Houston, Texas, a 59-year-old woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after being stabbed in her garage, allegedly by a pre-teen, according to her brother, as of Monday.

The 12-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated assault and is currently held at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

The victim, identified as Susan Chong by her family, has been battling mental health issues for decades, as shared by her brother, Chue Eng Chong, in a phone conversation with ABC13. Eng Chong revealed that their family were refugees from Laos and frequently checked up on Susan due to her condition.

The horrific incident was discovered by Susan’s brother, Andrew, who visited her on Saturday afternoon and found her stabbed in the stomach in the garage. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office stated that Andrew’s timely visit may have played a vital role in saving her life.

Eng Chong expressed profound shock and sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the misconception of safety in their neighborhood. Surveillance footage obtained by ABC13 from a neighbor captured two boys arguing with Susan in front of her house, followed by the 12-year-old allegedly stabbing her in the garage before fleeing with his younger brother.

The suspect’s mother, who chose not to disclose her identity, expressed deep remorse over the allegations, stating she never anticipated her child’s involvement in such a violent act and extending her prayers for the victim’s swift recovery.

Susan remains in critical condition, with her family closely monitoring her progress. Eng Chong hopes for rehabilitation for the young suspect and holds the parents accountable for their child’s actions.

After the 12-year-old’s initial hearing, his mother confirmed his continued detention at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. The 7-year-old sibling will not face charges due to being below the minimum age under Texas law. While the parents have not been charged, Child Protective Services have been notified.
