Fans young and old cheer on Texas Rangers on Opening Day

Fans crowded the pro shop at Globe Life Field, eagerly snagging gear for Rangers’ opening day.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience,” shared Rangers fan Ziegen Basquez. “I can’t wait to see the players in action.”

At just 11 years old, Basquez is already a devoted fan.

“I’ve been following the team for quite a while,” he mentioned.

But Basquez has some catching up to do compared to 92-year-old Robert Coronado.

“I’ve been a fan since way back,” Coronado proudly stated.

A retired Army Corporal Tank Commander and Korean War veteran, Coronado has always cherished baseball.

“Understanding baseball is important because it mirrors life,” he explained. “You get three chances, and then you’re out. Life works in a similar way.”

Coronado even took it upon himself to teach youngsters in his neighborhood about the game and life, aiming to steer them away from trouble.

For Coronado, baseball serves as an inspiration.

“It’s exhilarating,” he exclaimed. “It uplifts your spirits. Cheering for your team, believing in them—it’s a wonderful feeling. I always had faith that they would succeed.”

Now, Coronado harbors a dream of his own—to throw the first pitch at a Rangers game.

“If given the chance to throw the first pitch, I’m ready,” he declared confidently.

He envisions standing on the pitcher’s mound, ready to make the toss.

But for Coronado, this opportunity represents more than personal fulfillment.

“It would be an honor to represent more than just myself,” he added with a smile.
