Suspect accused of fatally stabbing homeless man on Easter near Independence Heights, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A suspect has been apprehended following allegations of fatally stabbing another man in north Houston on Easter Sunday, as reported by the Houston Police Department.

The incident occurred prior to 5:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of N. Shepherd Drive in Independence Heights.

According to Det. Finlay of the HPD, the two individuals involved, both believed to be homeless, engaged in a confrontation, during which the suspect purportedly produced a weapon and stabbed the other man.

The circumstances leading to the altercation remain unclear.

A passerby in the vicinity observed the victim while cycling and promptly notified 911.

Emergency medical personnel transported the man to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Following the altercation, the suspect reportedly fled westbound into a neighboring residential area, navigating fences along the way, according to police. Residents in the vicinity contacted law enforcement, leading to his apprehension.
