Security guard fires at man accused of flashing gun, threatening to ‘shoot everyone,’ HPD says

A man is in critical condition after being shot by a security guard on Houston’s southside Wednesday night.

According to Houston police, the incident unfolded because the man had a gun and threatened to shoot everyone involved.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex located on Faulkner Street near Scott Street around 10 p.m.

HPD stated that two residents at the apartment complex were involved in an altercation, prompting another resident to call security.

“Security arrived to address the situation. During the encounter, one of the individuals involved in the disturbance threatened to shoot everyone present. He returned to his apartment, retrieved a handgun, and pointed it at the other party involved in the altercation, as well as the security officer,” said Lt. T. Riley. “In response, the security officer drew his weapon and fired multiple shots at the suspect, striking him in the torso.”

The injured man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, as per Riley.

Police confirmed that several witnesses were detained, and the security guard, who is reportedly licensed, is cooperating with the investigation.

Fortunately, no one else was injured during the incident.
