Walkers wanted to help end world’s deadliest cancer in Houston

In Houston, solidarity against pancreatic cancer is a force to be reckoned with as thousands unite to combat the world’s deadliest cancer.

For the third consecutive year, the American Cancer Society has reported an increase in the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer, rising from 12% to 13% in the past year alone.

Acknowledging the crucial role played by Houston in achieving this milestone, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network emphasizes the urgency of its 2024 PurpleStride Houston walk, scheduled for Saturday, April 27.

J.R. White, a Houston real estate enthusiast, shares his personal journey of battling stage 2 pancreatic cancer, initially given just three years to live. With unwavering determination and support from his wife, Camille, White has been in remission for two years, defying the odds and embracing life to the fullest.

While celebrating the increasing survival rates, it’s imperative to recognize that pancreatic cancer remains a formidable challenge. With an estimated 66,440 new diagnoses expected this year in the United States, and nearly 52,000 projected deaths, the fight against this disease is far from over.

The Whites, alongside countless others affected by pancreatic cancer, are committed to raising awareness and funds to support research and advocacy efforts. The PurpleStride walk serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, bringing together individuals, families, and communities in the shared mission of ending pancreatic cancer.

Registration for the walk is open to all, inviting participants to join individually or as part of a team. The event, hosted at Houston Sports Park, promises a vibrant atmosphere of support and camaraderie.

As the event draws near, the message is clear: together, we can make a difference in the fight against pancreatic cancer. Join the movement, lace up your walking shoes, and stand with us on April 27th as we stride towards a future free from this devastating disease.
