No injuries reported after Third Ward’s Turkey Leg Hut catches fire Saturday evening, HFD says

In Houston, Texas, the Houston Fire Department swiftly responded to a fire that occurred at the Turkey Leg Hut on Saturday evening, officials confirmed.

Firefighters effectively contained the fire, utilizing a ladder truck to combat the flames at the renowned restaurant located in Houston’s historic Third Ward along Almeda Road.

Although the cause of the fire remains unclear, fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Following the fire, owner Nakia Holmes issued a statement reassuring the public that the fire did not directly impact the restaurant’s operations, as it occurred at an off-site warehouse.

Holmes expressed gratitude to the Houston Fire Department for their swift and heroic response, ensuring minimal disruption and safety for the community. She also thanked the community for their support during the incident and welcomed everyone to dine at the Turkey Leg Hut, emphasizing their commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment.

Last month, the Houston staple filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with Holmes citing the move as a strategy to “reposition and strengthen the company.” Court records indicate debts of about $4.7 million, including significant amounts owed in state tax revenue.
