In Houston, Texas, a 22-year-old man, Obinna Nnamani Nneji, faces charges of felony retaliation for sending a series of alarming text messages to his probation officer after learning about his impending return to jail due to a probation violation.
According to court documents, Nneji’s messages contained graphic threats, including references to cannibalism and violence. He was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff at his family’s residence on Welch Street in River Oaks.
The messages began on April 23, with Nneji sending a total of 70 threatening texts and also making threatening calls and sending emails to another probation officer.
Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson stated that the severity of the threats warranted the SWAT team’s involvement in Nneji’s arrest.
Despite attempts to contact Nneji’s defense attorney, Bassey Akpaffiong, for comment, there has been no response.
Nneji is currently held in Harris County jail on bonds totaling $1.5 million.
