Kingwood residents still dealing with high water days after San Jacinto River flooded neighborhood

After days of severe weather, Southeast Texas is beginning to dry out, but some areas, like the Northshore neighborhood in Kingwood, remain flooded due to overflow from the San Jacinto River. Despite the passage of time, high water levels persist in certain parts of the neighborhood, rendering many roads impassable.

dispatched a team to Kingwood on Sunday to interview residents about their ongoing efforts to recover from the devastating flooding. According to one homeowner, the experience has been disheartening and overwhelming. Numerous homes were inundated with water, and firefighters reported a large oak tree toppled by the storms.

Last week, a Houston police officer was captured on video rescuing a man and his three dogs from rising waters near the confluence of the San Jacinto River and Lake Houston.

Some residents shared that this was their first encounter with flooding, highlighting the unexpected nature of the disaster. One poignant story involves a Plum Grove dog owner who faced a difficult decision regarding her Great Dane amidst the emergency.

Steph Paulson, who recently moved into the area, expressed the emotional toll of witnessing her belongings submerged. Meanwhile, her husband, Jon Paulson, emphasized the challenges they face without access to essential utilities like water and sewage.

As of Sunday, authorities reported the rescue of 233 individuals and 164 pets throughout Harris County during the flooding. Officials are scheduled to provide an update on rescue and cleanup efforts at 10 a.m. Monday.
