Storms pass, but high water still holding up SE Texas highways

Following extensive flooding late last week, US 59 in Polk and San Jacinto Counties has reopened after temporary closure. However, the risk of encountering flooded surface streets and feeder roads near freeways persists, rendering many areas unsafe for travel.

Motorists are reminded not to attempt driving through high water and to adhere to the “turn around, don’t drown” mantra.

As of Monday, May 6 at 6:30 a.m., Houston Transtar provides updates on high water locations:

– IH-69 Eastex Northbound at San Jacinto River: Frontage Road U-turn closed since Thursday at 9 a.m.
– IH-69 Eastex Southbound at San Jacinto River: Frontage Road U-turn closed since Thursday at 9 a.m.
– IH-10 East Eastbound at Monmouth Dr: Exit Ramp closed since Saturday, May 4, 2024, 1:47 AM.
– IH-10 East Westbound at Monmouth Dr: Exit Ramp closed since Saturday, May 4, 2024, 5:45 PM.
– IH-69 Eastex Southbound at San Jacinto River: Frontage Road U-turn closed since Thursday, May 2, 2024, 9:00 AM.
– FM-1485 Eastbound at Montgomery-Harris County Line: All Mainlanes closed since Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 12:20 AM.
– FM-1485 Northbound at Harris-Montgomery County Line: All Mainlanes closed since Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 3:58 AM.
– Grimes/Brazoria County Line – SH 30 at Navasota River: Closed.

Although the National Weather Service’s flood watch expired Sunday, moderate to major river flooding remains a concern for at least a week. Motorists are urged not to bypass any remaining barricades.
