Boy, 4, found dead after being swept away by floodwaters in North Texas

A tragic incident occurred in North Texas where a young boy named Lucas Warren, aged 4, lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call around 2 a.m. reporting a vehicle stuck in floodwaters on County Road 528 in Burleson with three occupants—a man, a woman, and a child.

Despite efforts to reach safety on foot, the trio was overtaken by the swift currents. Emergency responders arrived promptly and managed to rescue the adults, who were later hospitalized. However, Lucas couldn’t be saved and was discovered deceased at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Chelsey Warren, Lucas’s mother, described him as a remarkable and cherished child. The family had been visiting relatives in Johnson County and was returning home when their car became trapped in the rising waters. Despite their attempts to escape, they were swept away, and Chelsey found herself struggling to keep Lucas above water. Tragically, she lost grip of him amidst the turbulent flow.

The devastating loss of Lucas has left his family in profound grief. They not only mourn his passing but also face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives after losing their belongings in the flood. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist with funeral expenses and to support the family during this difficult time.

In response to concerns raised about the lack of warning signs or barriers on the flooded road, the Johnson County Office of Emergency Management stated that gates are typically closed by precinct commissioners, but no prior reports of high water had been received for that area before the incident occurred.

The community has rallied around the Warren family during their time of need, offering condolences and financial support. However, the pain of losing Lucas remains immeasurable, and the family knows that healing will be a long and arduous journey.
