San Jacinto River Authority ‘needs to do a much better job,’ Harris Co. Commissioner Tom Ramsey says

In Tuesday’s commissioner court session, Tom Ramsey, the Harris County commissioner for Precinct 3, made impassioned remarks, directing blame towards Montgomery County leaders for the severe flooding witnessed in recent days.

Ramsey highlighted the proximity of his precinct to Montgomery County, with the San Jacinto River flowing through it, making it particularly vulnerable to flooding, as evidenced by the recent events.

According to Ramsey, the intensity of the flooding in Harris County can be attributed to inadequate flood mitigation efforts in Montgomery County. He also criticized the San Jacinto River Authority for what he perceived as poor management in releasing excess water from lakes.

Expressing frustration over the need to rescue residents from their homes during the floods, Ramsey emphasized the importance of proactive measures. He suggested that better water release practices by the San Jacinto River Authority could have mitigated the impact, allowing for earlier intervention and prevention of severe flooding.

Ramsey underscored the interconnectedness of the counties, noting that actions taken in Montgomery County have direct consequences downstream. Despite his criticisms, Ramsey expressed willingness to collaborate with Montgomery County to address these issues. However, ABC13’s attempts to obtain a response from Montgomery County officials have been unsuccessful so far.
