Young boy dies after police chase with 12- to 13-year-old suspects ends in crash, HPD says

In a tragic incident overnight in west Houston, a young boy lost his life when a police pursuit concluded in a collision. According to authorities, all the boys inside the pursued vehicle, including the deceased child, were aged between 12 and 13.

Houston police reported that the boys were occupants of a car reported stolen, which collided with five other vehicles during the pursuit.

The pursuit commenced on Houston’s west side at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, after police observed the suspects continuing to drive following a collision with another vehicle on Richmond Avenue.

Subsequently, another collision occurred on Kirkwood Road, yet the boys persisted in driving. Law enforcement officers continued their pursuit, attempting to prompt the suspects to halt the vehicle.

During the chase, the boys reportedly swerved to avoid a METRO bus, resulting in loss of control and a collision with three cars on Westheimer Road near the Beltway in Briarforest.

While four boys fled the scene, one was unable to do so.

“Upon returning to the vehicle, they discovered another suspect in the backseat who was unresponsive,” stated Asst. Chief Jessica Anderson. “HFD arrived and transported the suspect, who was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. All suspects are aged between 12 to 13 years old.”

Authorities managed to apprehend two of the fleeing boys, who sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. The remaining two children evaded capture.

Police confirmed that none of the other individuals involved in the collisions sustained injuries.
