Man shot and killed by Houston police identified

A man shot and killed by Houston police officers Friday night after his alleged attempt to break into an apartment has been identified.

Carlvon Mayo, 35, was killed at an apartment complex at 5901 Selinsky Road after police say he threatened them with a weapon. He was identified Sunday by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

He was confronted by two officers who opened fire after he refused to put down the weapon. He died on the balcony of the apartment, according to medical examiner officials.

Since 2004, Mayo had been arrested for a handful of misdemeanor charges, among them drug possession, criminal mischief and assault of a family member. He pleaded guilty in 2013 to a felony charge for dealing cocaine and received two years deferred adjudication
