Grapevine hospital received and administered its first COVID-19 vaccines today

A shipment of coronavirus vaccines has made its way to Grapevine this week. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine received 975 COVID-19 vaccines Thursday morning and began administering them to staff later in the afternoon.

Chris York, president of the medical center, called it a “historic milestone in a historic year.”

The facility’s staff members have treated more than 1,500 coronavirus patients, York said. Of their 2,000-person staff, both employees and medical care personnel, he estimated that about 600-700 work directly with COVID-19 patients.

The hospital is one of seven in Tarrant County to receive the coronavirus vaccine in the first week of distribution. Today, 60 health care workers received the vaccine, York said.

“This is really the first light at the end of the tunnel, in terms of us being able to turn the corner to begin to vaccinate people and really have a cure for this,” York said.
