Irving woman sought in Colorado attempted murder tried to take car with child inside, Denton police say

An Irving woman wanted on suspicion of attempted murder in Colorado was one of two people who tried to take a vehicle with a child inside Friday night, Denton police said.

Amber Campbell, 27, and Nathan Bassett, 23, were arrested after leading officers on a chase from Denton to Gainesville, police said.

A woman called 911 about 9 p.m. Friday and reported that two people tried to get into her vehicle with her 6-year-old child in tow, police said. The caller said she confronted the duo, who then fled north on Interstate 35 in another vehicle.

When Denton County sheriff’s deputies caught up with the getaway vehicle, the driver led authorities on a chase throughout Cooke County until the pair crashed in Gainesville.

Denton police did not say who was driving the vehicle. Campbell and Bassett were arrested on suspicion of evading arrest with a vehicle, a felony. Officers discovered that Campbell was wanted in connection with several crimes in Jefferson County, Colo., including attempted murder, robbery and assault, according to jail records.
