Voters in Grand Prairie approved $75 million in bonds for economic development while two of three council races were so close they are now headed to a June 5 runoff.
In total, 57.1% of residents voted for the bonds, according to Saturday’s election results, with 8,466 weighing in on the measure. The bonds will support revitalization of commercial, retail, residential and mixed-use developments and neighborhoods throughout Grand Prairie, including corridor and facade improvements and land acquisition.
Grand Prairie city officials have said they do not anticipate a tax increase as a result of the bonds.
City Council
Two city council races will head to runoffs.
District 6: Kurt G. Johnson will face Jeff Wooldridge. Johnson received 49.4% of the votes, and Wooldridge got 38.6%, both short of the 50% threshold required to avoid a runoff.
District 8: An at-large seat, Greg Giessner will face Steve “Junior” Ezeonu. Giessner won 40.9% of the votes, to Ezeonu’s 35.7%.
The runoff will be June 5, with early voting May 24 to June 1.
District 5: Incumbent Cole Humphreys ran unopposed and will remain on council.
