Suspect arrested after fatal shooting in southeast Dallas

A man is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting last week in southeast Dallas.

Cedric Lionel Kidd Jr., 24, of Dallas was arrested Sunday on a murder charge in the slaying of Billy Ray Phifer Jr., police said. He did not have an attorney listed in court records.

Officers were called the afternoon of July 19 to the 7700 block of Antoinette Street, near U.S. Highway 175 and Loop 12, where Phifer, 22, had been shot multiple times at an apartment complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not say how they identified Kidd as a suspect in the shooting. He remained in the Dallas County jail on Monday, in lieu of $500,000 bail.
