Houston police arrest 47 on felony DWI charges in May

A man who faced an intoxication manslaughter charge last month was among 47 people charged with felony-level DWI charges in May, according to records obtained by Chron.com.

Trevor Bergin, 19, was driving the wrong way around 2:30 a.m. at 12000 Highway 90 when his Chevrolet Silverado struck a black Nissan Versa driven by a 40-year-old man, who died on impact, Houston police said at the time.

Bergin allegedly attempted to steal a witness’s vehicle and flee the scene, but was detained and transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Other felony DWI suspects in May were charged with their third DWI or driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

Driving while intoxicated in Texas is typically a misdemeanor on the first two offenses. Drivers charged with a third DWI offense can face third-degree felony penalties up to $10,000 in fines, license suspensions and a possible sentence between two to 10 years in prison.

While most of the felony cases in May were the result of a third DWI charge, 11 people were arrested on a charge of DWI with a child passenger. See mugshots of the accused as well as their charges above.
