Security guard shoots, kills baseball bat-wielding woman at south Houston apartment complex

A security guard shot and killed a woman who hit him and chased after him with a baseball bat at a south Houston apartment complex, according to police.

Police found the woman dead of a gunshot wound around 4 p.m.Monday at the Sutton Hill Apartments in the 11900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in South Acres

The guard told authorities that a woman with an infant came to him and said her sister was “in a mental crisis and taking a sledge hammer and bashing the walls,” Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson said.

He ushered a young child from the apartment and came back to do the same for two more kids still inside the home. But the woman came after him with a baseball bat and hit him, Crowson said.

He then drew his pistol and opened fire, killing her. She was not identified.

Charges against the security officer would be dependent on a grand jury assembled by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
