Humble awaiting $6.3 in FEMA funds to relocate fire station, rebuild senior center

The City of Humble is hoping to make some improvements to two community staples: Fire Station No. 2 and the Humble Senior Activity Center.

Humble City Councilmembers held a public hearing Aug. 8 to solicit resident input on how to use a $6.3 million 2017 Community Development Block Disaster Relief Grant. No resident at the public hearing had any objections on how the city wants to utilize the FEMA funds.

Humble officials hope to learn by early next year if they will receive the grant funding.

Relocating Fire Station No. 2

Built in 1974 on Wilson Road, Fire Station No. 2 is the City of Humble’s oldest fire station.

City officials have been making plans over the past couple of years to relocate Station No. 2 because its no longer big enough to support the population or in the right location, Humble City Manager Jason Stuebe said. The city plans to move Station No. 2 to a 2.9 acre of property on South Houston Avenue near Cedar Pond and south of Will Clayton Parkway.

“The nexus for moving Station No. 2 is primarily to provide better coverage and improve response times to the southern half of the city. Additionally, Station No. 2 is too small for the personnel and apparatus,” Stuebe said.
