HEAT ADVISORY: Houston’s heat index could top 111° today

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Prepare for a dangerously hot day in Houston Tuesday. Not only could we set a new record high of 98-degrees, but the heat index could also blast up to 111-degrees. Houston’s first Heat Advisory of 2020 goes into effect from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Scattered storms loosely associated with Cristobal popped up Monday afternoon, but with Cristobal moving even farther away Tuesday, rain chances will drop as the mercury skyrockets. Factor in the humidity, and the heat index will top out somewhere between 107 to 111 degrees – in the shade!

A weak front will approach late Tuesday night, bringing a small chance for some noisy thunderstorms into early Wednesday morning. This weak front will provide us with some major humidity relief, lots of sunshine, and a couple of nice mornings with lows in the 60s. Temperatures will still climb into the mid 90s every afternoon through the weekend, but at least it will be that “dry heat” we often hear about but rarely ever get to experience.

Gulf moisture slowly returns this weekend, and eventually a 20% chance of rain will sneak back in sometime next week.
