Rain stops Saturday after several days, but San Jacinto River rising still a worry in Kingwood area

Heavy rainfall has inundated various areas in and around Houston, with ongoing concerns for residents, particularly in Kingwood. has extensively covered the situation, urging residents to consider evacuating if possible.

Lileana Pearson provided updates from Kingwood’s West Fork area, where conditions are expected to deteriorate further with the continuing rainfall.

The city’s creeks and rivers, including the San Jacinto River, have overflowed due to several days of rainfall. Forecasts suggest the San Jacinto River may rise by an additional three feet before cresting on Sunday.

Although Saturday is currently clear,  Weather Team has issued an Weather Alert for Sunday, anticipating heavy rainfall that could further elevate river levels.

The San Jacinto River’s current level stands at 55 feet, but it is anticipated to rise with ongoing rainfall. The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office reported rescuing 126 individuals and 63 animals, while the sheriff’s office aided nearly 70 people and 45 animals from floodwaters.

The impact of the rain extends beyond homes, affecting nearby businesses. One homeowner expressed the harrowing experience, likening it to reliving the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

According to the Office of Emergency Management, there were relatively few rescues overnight, but the situation could evolve throughout the day. County officials anticipate it may take two to three days to rescue individuals still stranded due to flooding.
