The front is expected to drop temperatures to near or below freezing for much of North Texas at the start of the workweek.

The National Weather Service already issued a freeze warning for most of North Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties. North Texans were urged Sunday to bring tender plants indoors and turn off automatic sprinkler systems to avoid creating patches of ice on driveways.

“The main story, however, will be the very brisk wind chills through Monday morning, which will be in the teens and low 20s,” National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said.

KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Brian James said temperatures are expected to hold steady throughout the week, with highs most days in the 50s and lows in the 30s. But Tuesday’s low is expected to reach 29, and Thursday the high may rise to only 47. Wednesday, North Texas will face a chance of rain as another cold front is expected to make its way into Dallas-Fort Worth.

On average, the first freeze is recorded at DFW International Airport by Nov. 22, according to the weather service. Dallas-Fort Worth typically records 33 freezes every winter, with most of those in December and January.

Last year, North Texas recorded its first freeze Oct. 31, and had a total of 22 freezes for the winter, according to weather service records.

Here’s what KXAS-TV (NBC5) has in the forecast:

Monday: 51/33

Tuesday: 58/29

Wednesday: 54/39; showers possible

Thursday: 47/34

Friday: 52/32
