Restaurant owner leaves hospital after nearly three months of COVID-19 treatment

The patriarch of the Hugo’s Invitados “family” has left the hospital after months of battling COVID-19.

Hugo Miranda left Methodist Richardson Medical Center on Monday surrounded by family, friends and well-wishers as he was wheeled through the hallways of the hospital.

The owner of the Irving restaurant still has a road to recovery that will involve time in a rehabilitation facility.“He had one of the most severe cases. There was a time he was the most sick person in the hospital,” Dr. Michael Foster of the Pulmonary Critical Care Division at Methodist Richardson told WFAA-TV (Channel 8).

Miranda became sick last December. Until recently, he was not able to open his eyes to see his wife. His hospitalization and battle with the disease has been difficult for his family and members of the community, who would gather outside a church every Sunday to pray for his recovery, according to the television station.

It has been hard for his staff as well, restaurant spokesman Matt Whiteley previously told The News.

“We’re like a family, and he’s our patriarch,” Whiteley said. “So much of this place comes from his heart.”
