Man arrested after telling detectives that fatal east Oak Cliff shooting was an accident, Dallas police say

A Dallas man was arrested this week after the fatal shooting of another man, which he told police was accidental, authorities said.

Police were called just before 9 p.m. Wednesday to an apartment in the 1900 block of High Hill Boulevard, near South Corinth Street Road in east Oak Cliff.

Officers found Broderick Young, 20, on the floor with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Police records indicate that he was shot with a rifle.

Detectives interviewed 20-year-old Zavontae Deterryas Jackson, who they said admitted to accidentally shooting Young. Jackson lives at the apartment where the shooting occurred, according to public records.

Jackson was booked into the Dallas County jail early Thursday on a manslaughter charge and released Friday after posting $50,000 bond. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
