19-year-old woman killed in northwest Houston may have got caught in crossfire

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police believe a woman who died in northwest Houston on Saturday afternoon got caught in the crossfire when guns were pulled between two groups of men.

According to Houston police, the woman was shot to death in the 6200 block of West Tidwell Road, between Bingle and Antoine. Police said they received a call of the shooting at 3:17 p.m.

Police toldthe victim was nearby when the two groups were in a dispute that led to a shootout.

“She was not involved in the altercation. We believe she knew some of the people that were involved. She was not, herself, fighting. She didn’t have a weapon,” police said.

While authorities have not released the victim’s name, family members who arrived at the scene, among them a grandmother, identified her as 19-year-old Kerrionta Jones.

Police initially detained two people. It’s believed multiple people were involved and officers are still looking for some of them. It’s not clear who fired the bullet that killed Jones.

The incident caps off a week in which the city of Houston already surpassed 100 homicides for the year.
