How Houstonians can celebrate Selena’s 50th birthday today

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Today, fans will celebrate the life of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who would have celebrated her 50th birthday today.

This week, Netflix dropped a new trailer for part two of its “Selena” series, and it includes scenes from her iconic Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo concert.

If you feel comfortable venturing out, there are a number of events commemorating Selena’s 50th birthday across Houston Friday.

From a live tribute band to a special menu featuring her favorite food, here’s how you can celebrate.

Saint Arnold Brewery is hosting “Selena Day” today. Starting at 5 p.m., a live DJ is spinning your favorite songs from the Queen of Tejano. The brewery will have a special menu featuring some of Selena’s favorite foods, including a medium pepperoni pizza. Entry is free.

You can also “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” to a live Selena tribute band at Neon Boots Dancehall on Hempstead. Advanced tickets are $10 and tickets at the door are $15. Doors open at 5 p.m. You must be over 21 to enter.

In Katy, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema LaCenterra will be showing the movie “Selena.” The 1997 film stars Jennifer Lopez and takes you through Selena’s inspiring and tragic true story. Tickets are $12. The movie starts at 7 p.m.
