Texas adds 1,682 cases, 20 deaths; Tarrant County reports 175 cases, three deaths

Across the state, 1,682 more COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday, including 1,344 new ones and 338 older ones that were recently added by labs.

The state also reported 20 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 48,966.

The state’s case total is now 2,824,620, including 2,457,069 confirmed and 407,551 probable.

There are 2,684 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 477 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Sunday, 3.8% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 4.8% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.4%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state, 10,647,950 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 7,230,783 — 32.2% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported three deaths and 175 cases Sunday.

The latest victims include an Edgecliff Village man in his 80s, a Fort Worth man in his 60s and a Grapevine woman in her 30s.  All had underlying conditions.

Of the new cases, 116 were confirmed and 59 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 255,856, including 215,183 confirmed and 40,673 probable. The death toll is 3,400.

According to the county, 147 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 721,747 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 501,249 — 31% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County

Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.

As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 297,315 — 256,342 confirmed and 40,973 probable. The death toll was 3,853.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 242. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 273.

According to the state’s data, 966,776 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 628,105 — 31% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.

Collin County

The state added 130 new cases to Collin County’s totals Sunday. The state did not add any new deaths.

The county’s case total is 89,290, including 73,676 confirmed and 15,614 probable. The death toll is 814.

The state says 75 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 454,609 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 305,306 — 38.1% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays.

As of Friday, the county had a total of 73,793 COVID-19 cases, including 54,458 confirmed and 19,335 probable. The death toll stood at 482.

According to the state, 358,315 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 256,694 — 36.8% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,343 cases (9,208 confirmed and 2,135 probable), 152 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 15,771 cases (13,229 confirmed and 2,542 probable), 255 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 22,468 cases (18,763 confirmed and 3,705 probable), 311 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,573 cases (16,687 confirmed and 2,886 probable), 365 deaths.
